The FINAL application deadline for the COSMOPOLITAN TUBA EUPHONIUM WORKSHOP is Saturday, April 21st!  All applications must be postmarked by April 21st to avoid late fees.  After April 21st applications are accepted on a space available basis and incur late fees.

KANDA RECORDING PROJECT UPDATE!

It's recorded and is now in the editing, mixing and mastering stage!  An ambitious 36 track recording of many of Sanae Kanda's compositions, in THREE PHASES which will be released on TWO CDs - hopefully by summer 2012!! 

PHASE I - (2) euphonium and piano pieces - Roland Fröscher and Sanae Kanda; (2) euphonium, tuba and piano pieces - Roland Fröscher, Michael S. Milnarik, and Sanae Kanda on one and Adam Frey, Michael S. Milnarik and Sanae Kanda on the other; (2) tuba quartets - Cosmopolitan Tuba Quartet (www.cosmopolitanquartet.com) - Roland Fröscher/Adam Frey, euphonium and Matthew K. Brown/Michael S. Milnarik, tubas.

PHASE II - (11) brass quintet pieces and (1) low brass trio - recorded by INNOVATA (www.innovatabrass.com) - Richard Kelley/Mark Emery, trumpets; Jeff Scott, horn; Brian L. Diehl, trombone; and Michael S. Milnarik on tuba.

PHASE III - (15) tuba and piano pieces - Michael S. Milnarik and Sanae Kanda; (1) solo tuba piece - Michael S. Milnarik; (2) solo piano pieces - Sanae Kanda.

It is true!  The Cosmopolitan Tuba Quartet - starring Roland Froscher & Adam Frey (euphoniums) and Matthew K. Brown & Michael S. Milnarik (tubas) will record it's first CD at the end of January 2012!!

CTQ PERFORMING AT ARMY TUBA/EUPH CONFERENCE!

The Cosmopolitan Tuba Quartet has been invited to perform at The United States Army Band Tuba Euphonium Conference (TUSABTC) on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 11:30am-12:30pm.  The conference is free and open to the public.  The concert will be broadcast live on the internet.  Please see the conference website for details.

97 AT BOSTON'S 26TH ANNUAL TUBA CHRISTMAS!

A great time was had by all at Boston's 26th Annual Tuba Christmas!  By far, the warmest Tuba Christmas in Boston EVER!  Almost 60 degrees!  Usually we're freezing and worried our mouthpieces are going to stick to our faces!

DATES CONFIRMED FOR KANDA RECORDING FINALE!

January 4th and 5th were confirmed TODAY (12/5/11) for the third and final phase of the KANDA recording project!  We will be recording pieces for tuba and piano; solo tuba; and solo piano!  Very excited to have these dates nailed down and have the project move forward!

INNOVATA HAS RECORDED THE MUSIC OF SANAE KANDA!

FINALLY!  At the urging of many people over the years INNOVATA has finished recording the music of Sanae Kanda!!  This is a monumental event in the history and mission of INNOVATA!  All pieces will be released as part of a 2 CD compilation of the Sanae's music.  Recorded earlier were music for tuba quartet - featuring the Cosmopolitan Tuba Quartet; music for euphonium and piano - featuring the composer and Roland Froscher; and music for euphonium, tuba and piano - featuring the composer, Adam Frey and Roland Froscher and Mike Milnarik.  Soon to be recorded will be Sanae's music for tuba and piano; solo tuba; and solo piano!  It'll be a bit before the recording is released, but as music enters the final stages - clips will be posted right here on milnarik.com!!

EXCITING FALL!

I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to be the guest artist at Bloomsburg University, Mansfield University and College of Saint Rose for their Low Brassfest and Octubafests!  Did clinics, masterclasses, recitals and even two performances of Tubby The Tuba!  I had a great time meeting and working with all those involved!

This fall also marks the premiere of a new accompaniment of Sanae Kanda's "Five Pieces for Tuba"  This time with Brass Nonet!  Stay tuned for more information on this landmark performance!

FUNDING GOAL REACHED!

On September 7th at 5:07pm my wife's fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.com ended with the words FUNDING SUCCESSFUL in a neon green box!!

I am ecstatic that after so many requests over the years my incredibly talented wife's music is going to be recorded! Two CDs featuring INNOVATA; Cosmopolitan Tuba Quartet; soloists and trios featuring - Sanae Kanda (piano), Roland Fröscher (euphonium), Adam Frey (euphonium), and myself on tuba.

CONGRATULATIONS to my tuba student Jonathan Staub on his acceptance to the graduate program at Michigan State University (on scholarship!) to study with Phil Sinder!

CONGRATULATIONS to my tuba student Stephanie Mundel on her acceptance to the undergraduate program at Emory University, where she will study Political Science and Music Performance with Bernard Flythe! ALSO, on her recent participation in All-Eastern Band in Maryland and her winning 1st place at Massachusetts All-State, which put her in the orchestra!

GUEST AT THE 2011 NERTEC IN MONTCLAIR, NJ

Sanae Kanda and I will be performing at the Northeast Regional Conference of the International Tuba Euphonium Workshop at Montclair State University, May 12-14, 2011!  We'll be doing a short program of works written by Sanae.  Check out www.nertec2011.com for conference details and directions.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MY STUDENTS PAST AND PRESENT...

PATRICK NYREN (euphonium) has just finished the masters degree program at the University of North Texas and is entering the doctoral program as the Teaching Assistant of Brian Bowman. He was also recently a finalist for the Air Force Band of the Golden West.

DAN HUNTER (tuba) has accepted a position with the Bala Brass Quintet, who were recently selected as the brass chamber music coaches for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

JONATHAN STAUB (tuba) has just completed the bachelors degree in music performance at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

JOHN BAYLIES (tuba) will be attending the Boston University College of Fine Arts.

ANDREW MELCHIONNA (tuba) will be attending the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
